UPDATED 5/23/11 5:54 p.m.

A student who brought a Glock handgun to a Pearl City intermediate school was showing it off to friends when it went off. Two students suffered minor injuries.

The gun discharged at Highlands Intermediate School after the student who brought the gun pointed it at another boy. The boy pushed the gun away and it discharged, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Earle Kealoha.

The boy who pushed the gun away was grazed in the stomach. A second student suffered minor injuries to three fingers from building fragments that flew after being struck by the bullet.

The 14-year-old student who brought the gun to school was arrested and charged with attempted murder, Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu said.

Fire and ambulance crews went to the scene at about 7:05 a.m. Police confiscated the gun, which was a Glock, according to the Associated Press.
