An influencial national group is throwing its considerable power behind Colleen Hanabusa.

“Colleen Hanabusa is committed to fighting for women and families,” Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, said in a press release.

She added: “A dedicated public servant, Colleen has championed ending gender discrimination in pay, improving Hawaii’s schools, and strengthening the infrastructure of Hawaii. Colleen has already proven herself as a vital member of Congress, and the EMILY’s List community is proud to support her again in her bid for election to the House of Representatives.”

The political action committee, which calls itself “the nation’s largest resource for women in politics,” says it has raised over $400 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates.

EMILY’s List — “Early Money Is Like Yeast” — has previously supported U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, both Democrats like Hanabusa.

Hanabusa, a former congresswoman, faces six other Democrats in the Aug. 13 primary.

There are also Republican, Libertarian and nonpartisan candidates in the race this year.
