Kathryn Matayoshi

Kathryn Matayoshi is the superintendent of the Hawaii Department of Education. Formerly executive director of the Hawaii Business Roundtable, she was hired in the summer of 2009 serve as the deputy superintendent and assist in the department’s bid for federal Race to the Top funds.

In August 2010, under Matayoshi’s leadership, Hawaii succeeded in its application for $75 million in federal Race to the Top grants to fund statewide education reforms.

Matayoshi graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. with a B.A. in English literature, and she holds a law degree from University of California Hastings College of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Hawaii.
