The heart of our education coverage is going to be student achievement. Of course, it’s not just the kids who are responsible for how they do. It’s the adults. So we’ll also be asking how they’re doing in their job. Student achievement and accountability, those two issues will be our focus here.
Our coverage will try to answer the central questions: How are our students being served? Is the school system accomplishing its mission?
Our keiki are Hawaii’s future after all, and what that future will look like depends heavily on our schools’ success in preparing them to meet it.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting your arrival so I can start to hear from you what you’d like to see in our reporting. In the meantime, I have put together some background on education issues that I hope you will find useful as we tackle these often complex topics.
Please feel free to use me as your research assistant — don’t hesitate to ask about something you want to understand. On the flip side, I hope you’ll share your knowledge and experiences with me and our other members, too. This is our gathering place to connect with one another. Please pop in regularly to see what’s new and join the conversation.
