In the weeks leading up to our soft open, we felt like we had a pretty good “pre-opening” plan in place. After all, this wasn’t the first time we’ve launched something. Wishful thinking. Nothing ever goes according to plan, and last night was no exception. First there was the media coverage that somehow leaked (thanks to all those who kept their word!). Then there were the expected but unexpected technical issues. What is a launch without some technical issues?

Despite all that, late last night we cracked open our door in our quest to build Hawaii’s new civic square. And ironically, last night’s launch experience epitomizes the journey we’re on here at Honolulu Civil Beat. We want you to expect the unexpected. That’s a key component of this new civic square. Learning about and discussing things we previously weren’t aware of. Talking with people we didn’t expect to ever speak with. That’s pretty cool.

All this to say that we’re glad you’re here and we’d love to hear from you. This is your place to speak your mind freely — and respectfully. We’re looking for everything from issues you want us to cover, to questions you have about Honolulu Civil Beat, to things that aren’t working properly. We don’t know what to expect, but we’re ready. We’re eager to hear what’s on your mind!
