1:35 p.m. Judge Rejects Gov’s Judicial Secrecy

Press release from the Office of the Attorney General:

The State is reviewing Judge Karl Sakamoto‘s ruling today against the Governor and in favor of the Star Advertiser in the newspaper’s lawsuit to compel the Governor to disclose the Judicial Selection Commission‘s lists of nominees.

Attorney General David Louie issued the following statement in response to the ruling: “Obviously, we are disappointed with Circuit Court’s oral ruling today. Once we receive the court’s written order and have the opportunity to thoroughly review it and consider other relevant factors, we will decide how to respond.”

11:20 a.m. Maggie’s List Endorses Lingle

The conservative PAC Maggie’s List has given Linda Lingle its nod for the U.S. Senate.

Maggie’s List was named after Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman elected to both houses of Congress.

Mazie Hirono previously was endorsed by the liberal PAC Emily’s List. It’s an acronym that stands for “Early Money Is Like Yeast.”

Briefing: Special Education

The state House and Senate Education committees are scheduled to hold a briefing this morning at the Capitol on special education programs and processes, including mental and behavioral health.

WestEd Center for Prevention and Early Intervention is expected to present their findings.

Jill Tokuda said this in a statement:

Evaluation of the State’s special education programs and processes is critical to ensuring that we are effective in supporting all of our students’ unique abilities and needs. It is my hope that we can use the findings and recommendations in this report to guide us as we constantly seek to better utilize our resources to build upon our strengths and focus on those areas that need improvement.
