Circuit Court Judge Karen Ahn today decided not to overrule herself and unseal a surveillance video that shows federal agent Chris Deedy shooting and killing Kailua resident Kollin Elderts.
Her ruling came after attorneys representing local media outlets including the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii News Now argued that she should release the video given the public battle the prosecution and defense have been waging over what happened that night in a Waikiki McDonald’s.
After the proceeding, one of the attorneys for the media outlets, Jeff Portnoy, called the ruling “doubly wrong.”
Portnoy also left open the possibility for an appeal, although he said that would be something to discuss with his client.
