As has been widely reported, Sen. Daniel Inouye had wanted Rep. Colleen Hanabusa to take his place in the Senate.  Hanabusa’s campaign just tweeted that Hawaii’s other former senator, Daniel Akaka, is endorsing her as well.

Though it came a month ago, the Hanabusa campaign released a video of Akaka at a July 2 Hanabusa event at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum. In it, he says of Hanabusa,  “She has made a great impression in the Congress of the United States … Her relationship with members there make a huge difference and we need someone who’s been a proven leader. And for me, Colleen has been a proven leader.”

The reminder appears to be aimed at bolstering Hanabusa’s campaign theme of experience, Akaka’s former political aides are also expected to help in her campaign against Sen. Brian Schatz. Former Inouye aides are also working on behalf of Hanabusa.
