Erosion is eating away at Hawaii’s most famous beach.
KITV reported yesterday that Kuhio Beach in Waikiki lost 25 feet of beach this month in the span of just 10 days.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell told KITV today that the city plans to add more sand to the beach to help mitigate the problem.
The state already spent more than $2 million last year to replenish the beach.
Waikiki is the center of Hawaii’s tourism industry, attracting more than 4 million tourists in 2009 alone according to an estimate by the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
