A 50,000 square-foot Whole Foods Market is coming to Kakaako, the Howard Hughes Corp. and Whole Foods Market announced Tuesday.

The grocery store, which will be the biggest Whole Foods Market in Hawaii, will be located in Ward Village in Kakaako along Queen Street and Kamakee Street.

Construction will begin in 2015 and should be completed in 2017.

“Whole Foods Market in Ward Village is the perfect addition to our mixed use, pedestrian-oriented and bike-friendly neighborhood and will serve as an amenity for all of Honolulu to enjoy,” Nick Vanderboom, senior vice president of development for the Howard Hughes Corp., said in a press release.

Howard Hughes Corp.’s master plan for Ward Village includes more than a million square feet of retail and commercial space as well as over 4,000 residential units. The company’s plans are part of an ongoing construction boom aimed at revitalizing the Kakaako area.
