All candidates for state elective office are required by state law to file a financial disclosure statement with the Hawaii State Ethics Commission.

But guess what? About one-third failed to do so on time this year.

According to the commission, the candidates include Neil Abercrombie, Shan Tsutsui, Mufi Hannemann, Brickwood Galuteria, Mililani Trask, Richard Fale, Jimmy Tokioka, Sharon Har, Faye Hanohano and dozens more.

All told, 129 out of 203 candidates got their paperwork in on time. (Abercrombie, Tsutsui and Hanohano filed after the July 18 deadline.)

The candidate financial disclosure statements, which are available for public inspection, include information about a candidate’s “sources of income, business ownership interests, debts, real property ownership interests, officer and director positions held in businesses, and other financial interests.”

The Ethics Commission is required by law to release the names of late and non-filers, and the penalty is $25. The full list is as follows:
