A Simple Alternative to the TMT
Two possible alternatives exist to the Thirty Meter Telescope, both with far better views of space than might be had from Mauna Kea.

An alternative to the Thirty Meter Telescope that already exists and has been producing results for years now is the Hubble Space Telescope, orbiting above ka honua (the earth).  Also, the James Webb Space Telescope may be coming up even before TMT would be on line.

There is no need to desecrate Ka Mauna Akea. Leave it alone, and reach farther out by satellite without much of the trouble that earth-based units have to overcome.
