The Judicial Selection Committee today released the names of candidates for a Supreme Court associate justice that have been forwarded to Gov. Neil Abercrombie for his consideration.

The nominees are Derrick H.M. Chan, Jeffrey P. Crabtree, Craig Nakamura, Richard K. Perkins, John M. Tonaki and Michael D. Wilson.

Abercrombie will submit his nominee, to fill the mandatory retirement of Associate Justice Simeon Acoba in March, to the Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee. It will be the governor’s third pick for the high court.

According to the commission, there were 16 applicants total this year; only two were female. Three were three government attorneys, five private attorneys, nine judges, three aged 41-50, eight  aged 51-60 and five  aged 61-70.
