HAWAII VIRUS TRACKER — Feb. 11: 95 New COVID-19 Cases And 1 Death

Hawaii health officials reported 95 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including 63 on Oahu, 19 on Maui, three on the Big Island, one on Molokai, and nine residents diagnosed out of state.

One fatality recorded on Oahu took the state COVID-19 death toll to 424.

Approximately 227,401 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the islands as of Tuesday, according to the Department of Health.

Hawaii remains in phase 1b of its vaccine rollout plan, which includes seniors 75 and older, first responders and other essential workers.

Half the state’s estimated population of people 75 and older have received their first dose, according to data posted by DOH this week.

The third phase of Hawaii’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan is scheduled to launch in March. That phase, 1c, will include people 65 and older along with other essential workers and people with underlying health conditions.

Reporting Lag

Civil Beat’s virus tracker is updated when the state releases its daily numbers. The state posts new data daily at noon. Daily reports reflect laboratory results collected up until 11:59 p.m. two days prior, leaving a 36-hour lag between when results are submitted to the Department of Health and when the state reports them publicly.

At least two people on Oahu were confirmed to be infected with a highly contagious variant of COVID-19 that originated in the United Kingdom. A health department spokesman said neither patient had a recent history of travel, meaning the virus is likely circulating in the community.

Statewide, 1.4% of people tested during the past week have been confirmed to have COVID-19. That figure is 1.8% on Oahu. If Oahu maintains an average of fewer than 50 new cases daily for two weeks and its rate of positive tests stays below 2.5%, residents could see the lifting of some restrictions and a move to Tier 3.
