Another failed election year that has fallen on our deaf status quo politicians. Taxpayers have yet to see any relief.

I’m middle class. My wife and I are retired. We own a home that is 43 years old. We and our youngest daughter live in it (she can’t afford to move elsewhere because of the rents being so high). We live on a fixed income from SS, and her small pension. Our property taxes have only gone one way…UP…for years. The rates are onerous (please don’t fire back they are the least in the nation % wise) , the house and property have remaIned the same since initially acquired, worked, maintained and paid for. Every year we get a statement saying our house is worth more but your taxes are going up. Combine this with the ever increasing cost of living here in Hawaii and we will soon be reaching the unaffordable level. This disparity needs to be addressed by the legislature and governor sooner rather than later. The very rich don’t care about taxes (or can avoid them somehow ) and the very poor (seemingly) get a lot of help that we don’t qualify for, but the middle class is being squeezed…

Limit raising property taxes! The problem with my idea is if you raise tax at a set rate over a set period of time, the powers that be will continually raise the Tax. And, I am only talking about .1 percent every 3 years!
