Ige Endorses Clinton For President

Hawaii Gov. David Ige said electing Hillary Clinton as president “is so important to the future of our nation and our state.”

Hawaii Gov. David Ige has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president of the United States.

“I am pledging my active support for Hillary Clinton for president because her election is so important to the future of our nation and our state,” Ige said in a press release Tuesday.

Ige’s support for the former secretary of state is unsurprising given that both are Democrats. But his endorsement may irk some die-hard Bernie Sanders supporters in Hawaii.

The senator from Vermont defeated Clinton 70 percent to 30 percent in the state’s presidential preference poll in March.

But Sanders didn’t win enough delegates nationally and endorsed Clinton last week.

Ige said he witheld his endorsement of Clinton until this week “to ensure a fair and impartial selection process” during the party caucuses and state convention.
