At-Large Trustee Rowena Akana was elected as the new chair of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees Thursday.
She succeeds Hawaii Island Trustee Robert K. Lindsey Jr., who led the OHA Board of Trustees for two years.
“I am excited about my new role as the chair of the Board of Trustees,” Akana said in a press release. “I look forward to working with all of the trustees on behalf of our beneficiaries.”

Akana’s selection came during a reorganization meeting.
Trustees also selected At-Large Trustee Lei Ahu Isa as vice chair and Maui Trustee Hulu Lindsey as chair of the board’s Committee on Resource Management.
Selections for the remaining board leadership positions will be made at a subsequent board meeting, says OHA.
Thursday’s board meeting was the first since the general election, when Kelii Akina defeated longtime incumbent Haunani Apoliona.
OHA will hold an investiture ceremony at Central Union Church Friday for invited guests.
