Hawaii Grand Jury Indicts Federal Agent for Murder in APEC Shooting

Christopher W. Deedy was indicted Wednesday by an Oahu grand jury for the shooting death of a Kailua man in Waikiki on Nov. 5.

Deedy, 27, a U.S. State Department agent who was in Honolulu for APEC, charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in connection with the death of Kollin Elderts, 23, at a Kuhio Avenue McDonald’s.

The city’s Department of the Prosecuting Attorney said if convicted, Deedy could be sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Deedy, who is from Arlington, Va., is scheduled to make an initial appearance before a judge Thursday morning.

The indictment comes on the day that Elderts’ family is holding a memorial service for him.
