The Pearl Harbor anniversary typically gets little attention in Japan. Authorities don’t want to highlight the country’s past military aggression. 

But on Wednesday, Japan’s foreign minister told a news agency that he feels “deep emotion” about the 70th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Hawaii. 

Kyodo News agency quoted Koichiro Gemba as saying Wednesday that even though the U.S. and Japan fought in World War II, their alliance now is vital for the peace and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
