Here’s one name to throw into your list of possible 2012 Honolulu City Council candidates: Ron Menor.

The former state senator is eyeing the seat to be vacated when Nestor Garcia finishes his final term. RonMenor.com makes that pretty clear. A new campaign committee organizational report filed last month also identifies District 9 as the target.

Menor has yet to schedule a fundraiser, but campaign treasurer Willie Tyner told Inside Honolulu Menor has started some preliminary planning. Messages left at two phone numbers for Menor weren’t immediately returned.

Menor lost his re-election bid in a tight primary against Michelle Kidani in 2008, a few months after Menor pleaded no contest to driving drunk with his 11-year-old son in the car. He blamed his erratic driving on contact lens problems, but had a blood alcohol level of .147.

That photo above shows Menor (center) and his attorneys in court the day he was sentenced to 48 hours in jail.

District 9 covers Waikele, Waipahu, Village Park, Makakilo, Kunia, and Mililani Town.
