New this week that yet another monk seal was found dead under “suspicious” circumstances has prompted environmental groups to up the reward for information leading that will help solve the crimes.
The reward has grown from $30,000 to $40,000, or $10,000 per confirmed seal death.
A three-year-old male monk seal was found dead Sunday on a northeast Kauai beach, according to state and federal wildlife officials. It’s the latest in a string of suspicious monk seal deaths since November 2011 when a seal was found on Molokai.
