The Honolulu City Council just said, “Aloha,” to businesses operating in Kailua and Kalama Beach parks. And in this case the word means goodbye.

Council members voted 7-2 to override Mayor Peter Carlisle’s veto of Bill 11, which is the new law that would shut down commercial activities at the beaches seven days a week.

A previous bill passed by the council already banned business activity at the beaches on weekends.

The veto override wasn’t much of a surprise. Bill 11 originally passed 7-2. It only takes six votes — two-thirds of the nine member council — to override the veto.
