A 58-year-old man was bitten by a shark this morning off Kanaapali Beach on Maui, prompting the beach’s closure for a mile in both directions from where the bite took place.
The attack was reported around 8:30 a.m. in the waters fronting 110 Kaanapali Shores Place, county officials said. Surfers were evacuated from the water and the beach closed. Fire crews said the victim’s wound was a 6-inch bite outline of the shark’s mouth on the victim’s thigh.
The victim was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
