Maui County officials say there was a shark attack at Ulua Beach in South Maui Wednesday.
It happened at around 10 a.m. Ocean Safety officials report the attack happened in 10 feet of water about 30 feet offshore.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources and the County of Maui closed off the area one mile in both directions, from Polo Beach to the area fronting the Mana Kai Maui Resort.
Warning signs have been posted. County officials say the victim is female and was bitten in the upper torso.
The beach will be closed until sunset Wednesday. The area will be evaluated before reopening on Thursday.
