HCDA Holding Public Hearing on Another Kakaako Project Today

The Hawaii Community Development Authority is holding a public hearing today at noon to present details and get public input about a 7-story building proposed for 803 Waimanu St. in Kakaako. 

The developer MJF Development Corporation initially proposed a 20-story tower in March but withdrew his application in July after HCDA staff recommended against adopting the plan. The original proposal exceeded height limits by 185 feet and was too close to other buildings.

Bernard Nunez, vice president of the community group Kakaako United, said the new proposal is much better than the first, but that Kakaako residents are still worried about the project’s impact on sewers, parking and traffic.
