Maeve Reston of The Los Angeles Times has the FULL report:

At 3:17 pm, President Obama has arrived at his “shave ice” spot of choice—Island Snow in Kailua. The pool is holding outside in the parking lot of the small Kailua Beach Shopping Center.

The shopping center, which has L-shaped configuration, is a popular gathering spot in Kailua with a pizza place, a realtor’s office and an outdoor rental outfitter known as Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks.

Beachgoers in bikinis often pass by Island Snow making the short trek from the outfitter shop to the beach, and there were a number of them today dragging yellow kayaks.

OMG! We’ve got this EXCITING update:

Shortly before 3:30 pm, President Obama emerged from Island Snow in Kailua holding a cherry and lemon-lime shave ice in a paper cone. … The crowd applauded and cheered as the President approached wearing sunglasses and a navy-and-white striped short-sleeved shirt.

“Oh my goodness,” one woman screamed.

“What’s up buddy,” the President said to the small boys on the far end of the line.

“Mr. President you’re fantastic,” a woman shouted.

“Hey sweetie, how are you,” the President said to another child.

He engaged in a conversation with another man about the cherry flavor, but their exchange was inaudible beyond the word “cherry. …”

As a goodbye, the President gave the crowd the “shaka” sign.
