The Alison Lundergan Grimes campaign in Kentucky has a new web ad appealing to women voters to “shatter the glass, break the ceiling.”

According to The Courier-General, Grimes has been getting “a lot of assistance” from the Senate’s 16 Democratic women, and several of them are in the ad — including Mazie Hirono of Hawaii.

Meantime, Hirono sent out a request to supporters yesterday asking campaign contributions be sent to Mark Begich of Alaska, Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Kay Hagan of South Carolina and Mark Udall of Colorado.

All are Democrats in tight races with Republicans, and the deadline to contribute in the latest campaign finance cycle was midnight.

At stake is control of the U.S. Senate, which Democrats do not want to lose. Most analysts suggest that the GOP has a real chance of taking over.

“In 20 days, we’ll know whether we can continue making real progress for hard-working families here in Hawaii and across the country — or whether we’ll have to fight just to defend programs like Medicare and Social Security,” Hirono said in her email pitch.
