Gabbard Activated by Guard for Kilauea Lava Response

The Hawaii congressman, who is running for re-election, will not be able to talk to the media.

U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has been activated by the Hawaii Army National Guard to support assistance to Hawaii County’s response to the ongoing Kilauea lava flow.

The congresswoman serves as a Military Police captain. She will join some 80 Guard soldiers and airmen already on the ground in Puna.

“During this time, she will be unable to accept media requests or make public statements related to her official congressional duties,” according to her office. “Her offices in Hawaii and Washington, D.C., will remain open and serving her constituents during this period.”

The duration of Gabbard’s duty is yet to be determined.

Tomorrow is election day. Gabbard is expected to cruise to re-election over Republican Kawika Crowley.
