The Hawaii State Senate has hired Jill Kuramoto to be its new communications director.
Kuramoto, who replaces Thelma Dreyer, starts the job Feb. 23
Kuramoto is a former KITV reporter and anchor. She left KITV in 2013 to handle public relations at the Honolulu Board of Water Supply.
The hiring announcement was made Friday by Senate Majority Leader Kalani English.

“Jill will begin the tasks of her office and assist us to be more effective in communicating our priorities,” English said in memo to Senate offices. “I am confident that her breadth of experience, strategic sensibilities and media expertise will be of great assistance to this body as we work on some of the State’s important issues.”
Michele “Michi” Moore will be the aide to Senate Communications.
“Michi is an expert in social media strategy and implementation and a top photographer — shooting events like APEC 2011 to Hawaii’s most exciting concerts produced by ‘Uncle’ Tom Moffatt,” said English.
