NextEra Energy President Eric Gleason and vice president of communications Rob Gould joined Civil Beat’s Chad Blair and Eric Pape for a freewheeling and frank discussion of the proposed merger between Hawaii’s century-old electric utility and the large mainland company.

The $4.3 billion deal is drawing fire from top state officials, including the governor, as well as people in the energy industry. But, as Gleason and Gould point out, those criticisms are in some cases simply mistaken and in others disingenuous and even, perhaps, politically contrived.
