Bob Ortega
Bob Ortega Cory Lum/Civil Beat

Bob Ortega has lived and worked in six countries during his journalism career. Now he’s looking to help Honolulu Civil Beat “deepen the level of investigative and enterprise reporting” done in the islands.

Civil Beat’s new Managing Editor joins Pod Squad host Chad Blair for a discussion in which Ortega notes a lack of government transparency in Hawaii and “a really strong need here for good civic journalism.”

Ortega most recently covered border and immigration issues for the Arizona Republic in Phoenix. He’s also worked at the Seattle Times and Wall Street Journal.
