Bobby Bunda held a campaign fundraiser at the Pacific Club in downtown Honolulu on Dec. 1, suggesting his desire to return to elective office.
The former Hawaii Senate president asked for contributions of $500 in a bid for the District 2 seat on the Honolulu City Council.
The district, which includes Mililani Mauka, Wahiawa, Waialua, Haleiwa, Pupukea, Sunset Beach, Kahuku, Laie, Kaaawa and Kahaluu, is currently represented by Ernie Martin, the council chair. Martin’s second and final term is up in 2018.
Bunda’s campaign treasurer is Laura Figueira, who is Martin’s executive assistant.
Bunda’s last run for office was in the 2010 race for lieutenant governor, when he finished second, far behind winner Brian Schatz but ahead of fellow legislators Norman Sakamoto, Gary Hooser, Lyla Berg and Jon Riki Karamatsu.
In May, Bunda resigned as a board member for the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, saying he wanted to spend time with his family.
