Jose Fajardo joins Pod Squad host Chad Blair to talk about the future of public radio in the islands.

Fajardo was named president and general manager of Hawaii Public Radio earlier this year. The Puerto Rico native noted that about 196,000 people listen to HPR’s two news and music stations (find them in Honolulu at 88.1 and 89.3 on the dial), but only about 12,000 support the station financially.

HPR is currently trying to address that situation during its fall pledge drive.

Blair, by the way, talks about Civil Beat stories news every weekday on HPR’s “The Conversation,” which airs from 8 to 9 a.m.
