Civil Beat is not the only nonprofit news site trying to figure out how to engage new readers and convert them to donors that will then help sustain local news. We’re one of five news organizations nationwide that has been selected to participate in The Hub, a membership services pilot project.

This week’s episode of the Pod Squad features a discussion with Mary Walter-Brown, publisher of the Voice of San Diego who is spearheading The Hub, as well as Civil Beat’s Ben Nishimoto and Mariko Chang. Nishimoto is director of philanthropy, while Chang is the membership and events manager.

Learn a little bit more about our new nonprofit world and the people who are working to make Civil Beat a success.
