High case counts continued Friday, with 264 new COVID-19 diagnoses recorded by state health officials, along with four COVID-19 related deaths on Oahu.
The islands have not seen daily case counts at this scale since last summer.
Among the latest infections were 202 on Oahu, 22 on Maui, 10 on the Big Island, three on Kauai, two on Molokai, and 25 residents diagnosed out of state.
These are infections that laboratories submitted electronically to the Department of Health on Wednesday.
Reporting Lag
Civil Beat’s virus tracker is updated when the state releases its daily numbers. The state posts new data daily at noon. Daily reports reflect laboratory results collected up until 11:59 p.m. two days prior, leaving a 36-hour lag between when results are submitted to the Department of Health and when the state reports them publicly.
No further details were provided about four deaths recorded Friday, which took the official state death toll from the virus to 303. Civil Beat calculates at least 309 people have died from the disease in Hawaii, including six deaths on Hawaii island confirmed by local county authorities that are still pending medical verification by the state.
Across the state, 3.4% of people tested during the past week have been confirmed to have COVID-19. That positivity rate has been swayed most by increasing case rates on Oahu and in Maui County.
More than 25,470 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the state as of Jan. 2, most of them on Oahu, according to information posted online by health authorities. State officials said the islands have received 83,000 doses to date.
