Hawaii health officials reported four deaths on Oahu and 250 new cases of COVID-19 statewide on Saturday, bringing the total number of people diagnosed with the coronavirus in Hawaii since the pandemic began to 23,143.

The cases included 159 on Oahu, 51 in Maui County, 20 on the Big Island, and 20 residents diagnosed out of state.

Since the start of December, 701 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Maui County — more than half of all cases the county has seen since the start of the pandemic.

Because of a reporting lag, Saturday’s numbers are cases that laboratories reported to the Department of Health on Thursday.

Reporting Lag

No further details were provided about four deaths recorded Saturday, which took the official state death toll from the virus to 307. Civil Beat calculates at least 313 people have died from the disease in Hawaii, including six deaths on Hawaii island confirmed by local county authorities that are still pending medical verification by the state.

Across the state, 3.4% of people tested during the past week have been confirmed to have COVID-19. On Oahu, that figure is 4.4%.

More than 35,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the state as of Friday, Hawaii News Now reports. The islands have received 91,700 doses to date.
