Hawaii health officials reported 71 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday including 48 on Oahu, 11 on Maui, two on the Big Island and 10 residents diagnosed out of state.

The number of people with COVID-19 needing hospital care in Hawaii has been steadily declining. There are currently 45 people with COVID-19 hospitalized in the islands, down from 124 a month ago.

About 10.8% of Hawaii’s population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Department of Health.

Hawaii remains in phase 1b of its vaccine rollout plan, which includes seniors 75 and older, first responders and other essential workers.

The third phase of Hawaii’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan is scheduled to launch in March. That phase, 1c, will include people 65 and older along with other essential workers and people with underlying health conditions.

Statewide, 1.1% of people tested during the past week have been confirmed to have COVID-19. That figure is 1.9% on Maui and 1.3% on Oahu.

Current restrictions on gatherings on Oahu will remain in place for at least another month, Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s office announced in a news release on Friday.
