Hawaii health officials reported 75 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday including 51 on Oahu, 15 on Maui, seven on the Big Island and two residents diagnosed out of state.

The new cases raised the state’s total to 26,468. Two new fatalities were reported on Oahu. The state COVID-19 death toll is 418. The state reported 1,247 cases in the past 14 days.

Hawaii remains in phase 1b of its vaccine rollout plan, which includes seniors 75 and older, first responders and other essential workers.

Approximately 189,446 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the islands as of Friday, according to the Department of Health.

Health officials urged people nationwide to avoid large Super Bowl parties and to take safety precautions including wearing masks and maintaining safe distances on Sunday amid fears that such gatherings could cause another spike in coronavirus cases.

On Saturday, a second person on Oahu was confirmed to have a more contagious variant of COVID-19 that originated in the United Kingdom, according to the state Department of Health. The first case was reported on Friday, also on Oahu.

The DOH said neither patient had a recent history of travel, according to Hawaii News Now.

Statewide, 1.8% of people tested during the past week have been confirmed to have COVID-19. That figure was 2.4% on Oahu and Maui County. Oahu has been in Tier 2 of its reopening plan since October.
