Honolulu police have confirmed that a burglary suspect involved in an apparent barricade situation has been fatally shot in the Pearl City area Friday morning.

Officials said the suspect was a male in his 30s.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary at a home on Kalauipo Street shortly after 4 a.m.

According to HPD, Specialized Services Division officers were called to the scene. The Honolulu Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene shortly after.

HFD said it received a call from HPD to assist with the barricade situation but around 6:30 a.m. they said the incident changed to a two-alarm building fire.

Heavy black smoke was emanating from the side of the two-story home, firefighters said.

Videos sent into our newsroom shows flames coming from inside the home and gunshots being fired.

The fire was extinguished around 7:15 a.m.

HPD said a press conference is being held later today at the Alapai headquarters.

Police have closed a portion of Kalauipo Street between Hoomoana Street and Paaaina Street.
