Upcountry Maui House race draws three candidates.
Longtime state representative Kyle Yamashita will face Democratic opponent Keoni Kuoha in the Aug. 8 primary election and the winner will face Republican candidate Dan Johnson in November.
State House District 12 includes Keahua, Hali’imaile, Pukalani, Makawao, Pulehu, Waiakoa, Kula, Keokea and ‘Ulupalakua in Upcountry Maui.
The candidates were sent a survey by Civil Beat asking them to respond to questions about rebuilding Maui after the wildfires, Bill 9 and how they would address everyday cost of living issues in their community.
