Two Democrats face off to represent the urban Honolulu district.
Longtime incumbent Donna Kim, first elected to State Senate District 14 in 2000, is running again to represent Kapālama, ‘Ālewa, Kalihi, Kalihi Valley, Fort Shafter, Moanalua Gardens, Valley and Red Hill.
The Senate Education Committee chairʻs Democratic challenger in the Aug. 8 primary election is Christy MacPherson.
Both candidates filled out a survey from Civil Beat, outlining their views on what they consider the biggest issues facing the district, what they think are the legislative successes from the latest session and how they would help support the 60% of Hawaiʻi families struggling to get by.
Their responses are linked here in alphabetical order under their official ballot name, which you can also compare on Civil Beat’s 2026 Hawaiʻi Primary Ballot.
