Earlier this month we reported that Radiant Cordero, chief of staff for Honolulu City Councilman Joey Manahan, is campaigning to take his open seat next year. Manahan is completing his final term.

Add Jacob Aki to that District 7 race for the seat that represents Kalihi, lwilei, Kalihi Kai, Mapunapuna, Salt Lake, Aliamanu, Hickam, Foster Village, Ford Island and Sand Island.

Aki, chief of staff for state Senate Majority Leader Kalani English, welcomes Cordero to the race.

“Our community is very fortunate to have two outstanding young candidates running for office and I look forward to a spirited campaign heading into 2020,” he said via email.

Of course, Aki hopes folks will vote for him.

He said he is a “lifelong resident of Kalihi with deep familial roots in the community” who has been actively canvassing the district since May.

“We’ve made it a goal to walk the entire district before years end and I am excited to say that we are on track to meet that goal,” said Aki. “For me, it’s important that I hear from and talk with every resident about the issues and concerns affecting our district. I’ve received such a warm reception from many of these residents and our campaign’s message is resonating with them.”
