Jeannine Souki replaces Shannon Alivado, who stepped down in October.

The Honolulu City Council confirmed Jeannine Souki, a senior manager of government and regulatory affairs at Hawaiian Telecom, to the city’s voluntary police commission on Wednesday.

Souki will replace Shannon Alivado, who stepped down in October after serving on the commission since 2017. Alivado is the director of government relations at Hawaiian Electric Co.

“Commissioner Souki brings a solid combination of private and public sector experience to the commission, and we look forward to her input and contributions here,” said Commission Chair Doug Chin.

Souki worked as the chief of staff for the City Council in 2021 before going to Hawaiian Telecom, which provides high-speed internet, phone and wireless services to homes and businesses around the state.

She also worked as the director of government affairs and corporate communications for Hawaii Gas and the executive director of the Hawaii Public Charter Schools Network. She previously served on the City and County of Honolulu’s real property tax board of appeals.

Souki holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications from the University of Hawaii Manoa.

Her term on the seven-member commission is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2027.

The other commission members are Chin, who served as Hawaii Attorney General from 2015-2018; Vice Chair Kenneth Silva, who was Honolulu’s former fire chief; Ann Botticelli, a former Hawaiian Airlines executive; Elizabeth Char, former director of the state Department of Health; Gerard Gibson, who serves on the board of the Hawaii Hotel Alliance; and Carrie Okinaga, university general counsel for UH Manoa.

The commission will meet next on Nov. 15.
