Gov. David Ige has tapped Neal Miyahira as director of the Department of Budget and Finance.
He is at present the administrator of the Budget, Program Planning and Management Division at Budget and Finance, according to a press release Friday.

He also served as director and deputy director of the department during a total of 20 years there.
Previously, Miyahira worked at the Department of Taxation as deputy director, chief of research at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor “and in various capacities” in the Hawaii state Senate and for the state.
Miyahira earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics at the University of Hawaii Manoa.
He starts the new gig Monday, and his appointment requires Senate confirmation.
Robert Yu, the deputy director at Budget and Finance, has been serving as acting director after Rod Becker stepped down early this year.
