The Commission to Improve Standards of Conduct is expected to delve deeper into government transparency issues later this year.

Sen. Karl Rhoads says he won’t consider the measure, but lawmakers are poised to create a working group to consider the controversy.

Some bills before the Legislature would help — for instance, by reducing copying fees. Others are bad ideas that would blow holes in the public’s right to know.

The bill would roll back a Hawaii Supreme Court ruling that opened up many records to the public, including draft documents and records that show how an agency came to a decision.

Meanwhile, the Legislature is considering further changes to the Sunshine Law, including requiring that video livestreams be archived.
