Former two-term Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle is chairing Charles Djou’s campaign for Congress, the Republican candidate announced Monday.

And she’s not the only major player in island politics he’s recruited to his team. 

Barbara Matsumoto, a state rep for 34 years in the Hawaii Legislature, is campaign manager; Shelton Jim On, a private attorney and former member of the Judicial Selection Commission, is finance chair; Darwin Ching, a former Board of Education member and head of Labor and Industrial Relations; is the grassroots chair; Gary Ishikawa, a former Honolulu Board of Water Supply engineer and retired brigadier general in the Hawaii Army National Guard, is coalitions chair; Honolulu attorney Chris Mashiba is treasurer; and Cal Chipchase, a private attorney and University of Hawaii adjunct law professor, is campaign legal counsel.

Djou is the leading Republican candidate in the race to represent urban Oahu. He is expected to face the winner of the Aug. 9 Democratic primary.

The top candidates in that crowded contest are Senate President Donna Mercado Kim, state Rep. Mark Takai and Honolulu City Councilman Stanley Chang
