“Governor Ige. Say it with me — Governor Ige,” says Civil Beat political reporter Chad Blair as he leads the Pod Squad in a discussion about the potentially surprising results of the Hawaii governor’s race. Civil Beat reporter Nick Grube and Shriners Hospital for Children and PBS Insights host Mahealani Richardson join him in wondering why Gov. Neil Abercrombie is trailing the challenger.
The trio share their thoughts on how Sen. David Ige built a lead in the polls, why Abercrombie has such high negatives when the economy is good and whether there’s real animosity between the two candidates. They also discuss Mark Takai’s surge in the CD1 race.
“When you first heard that David Ige had announced his bid for governor, what was your first initial reaction,” asked Grube?
“I said there’s no way — absolutely no way — no way Neil Abercrombie loses to this guy,” responded Blair and Richardson.
I guess we’ll find out on August 9.
