A Hawaii woman in her 60s who was infected with Hepatitis A after consuming tainted scallops at Genki Sushi has died from liver failure, her lawyer, Bill Marler told Hawaii News Now.
One other Hepatitis A patient has acute liver failure as well, the report said.
Marler is representing several clients in connection with the outbreak.
The state Department of Health has confirmed that 291 people have been sickened in this summer’s Hepatitis A outbreak, while 73 of those cases have required hospitalization. The outbreak was focused on Oahu, though 11 neighbor island residents and mainland visitors were also sickened.
The department is now looking for secondary cases of the infection, such as household members who are regularly in close contact with infected individuals, the report said.
