Jamm Aquino is Civil Beat’s photo editor.

He spent over two decades as a staff photographer at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, photographing some of the most historic moments in Hawaiʻi such as UH Football’s monumental run to the 2008 Sugar Bowl, the 2018 eruption of Kīlauea, and the tragic 2023 Maui wildfires. From getting catapulted off the USS Nimitz, to an everyday slice-of-life moment at Ala Moana Beach, Aquino’s photojournalism comes with a sense of adventure, intimacy, and detail.

When not behind a camera, he can be found behind six strings playing guitar for a number of different bands in Honolulu.
