Warren Haruki will take over as chair of the Board of Education in July.
Gov. Josh Green has named Warren Haruki, a former CEO of Maui Land & Pineapple Co., as the next chair of the state Board of Education.
Haruki, who also helped found the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation, was one of three picks for the BOE announced by the governor’s office Friday.
Kahele Dukelow is the dean of arts and sciences at Maui College. Shanty Asher, who has served on the BOE since 2020, was selected for another term.
All three positions are interim until confirmed by the state Senate.
Hawaii is the only state with a single school district and board of education. The state switched from an elected board to an appointed board in 2010.
